Asia Pacific Society of Medical Virology

About APSMV

The APSMV is a regional collective in the field of medical virology, dedicated to fostering collaboration and advancing the understanding, prevention, and management of viral diseases. Established in 1982, we aim to form a collaborative network of virologists across Asia-Pacific to enhance the sharing of expertise, resources and research information, and to strengthen regional and global responses to both existing and emerging viral threats.

Our Mission

At the heart of our Society’s mission is the pursuit of knowledge, understanding, and the translation of virology research from fundamental discovery to clinical application. Hence, the society strives to:

Promote Scientific Excellence:

To foster a culture of scientific excellence by providing platforms for researchers, scientists, and students to showcase their groundbreaking work in virology.

Knowledge Exchange:

To facilitate the sharing and exchange of resources, knowledge and expertise among our members and the broader scientific community through webinars, conferences, publications, and networking.

Community Building:

To cultivate a supportive and collaborative community of virologists from both basic and clinical disciplines, and to encourage networking and mentorship, and professional development opportunities for researchers at all career stages, particularly early- and mid-career researchers.

Outreach and Education:

To raise public awareness and literacy about viruses and their impact on human, animal, and environmental health through education and outreach initiatives.

Regional and Global Preparedness:

To work with regional and global institutions, governments, and healthcare organizations to address challenges in virology, inform policy, strengthen preparedness for emerging viral threats, in line with the One Health approach to outbreak responses and build resilient global health systems across Asia-Pacific.

The Society hopes that the strong Asia-Pacific regional ties developed within the medical virology community will enhance global research collaboration and outbreak preparedness, enabling the region to respond more effectively to viral disease threats.
